The next posts will start to get into my practices, philosophy, and the day to day workings of the Chuck Taylor garden. Before I get into the nitty gritty I'd like to take a few moments to show you all just a bit of the garden.
Care to don some Converse and stroll through the hipster garden for a spell, hit the "Read More" button below.
To describe the garden a bit, we have 3 raised beds and a xeriscape that is perhaps 400 square feet. The xeriscape is perennial and vegetable while the raised beds are for vegetables only. It is a dynamic space that has but a handful of permanent features.
Here we have Italian red onions and the garlic area. This year we did 8 varieties of garlic and they are within weeks of picking and curing time. I will post about this when the time comes.
Ants on the Asclepia. We try to give the butterflies something to work on and asclepias do the trick. In a few months these will be nearly decimated by caterpillars, but that's ok, it's why we planted them. Meanwhile the ants are content to farm aphids on them, and with my Zen nature I couldn't care less, it's natures way. Here in our garden everything has a home.
This was from a bit back, it is a blooming onion. This year the wild swings in late winter weather tricked half the onions into blooming and the other half into giving up the ghost. Not a problem, however, as we made sure to plant plenty and we still managed a bumper crop.
A nicely sized eggplant nestled in the world's greatest mulch (don't worry, that will get its own post).
The huntress. Turkey arrived last thanksgiving day very thin and covered in mange. We had always wanted a floppy orange cat, we just weren't expecting such a mess of a cat. She has adjusted and healed nicely and now enjoys hunting birds and being a general blessing in our life. She can pur while eating, which I think is effing cool.
Here is one of our many helpers in the garden. Since we found the world's greatest mulch, we have had a literal explosion in beneficial insect populations. This little guy likes to poop, eat, and have sex. What a life!!!
That is it for now, hope you guys enjoyed the stroll, now we can get more serious.
Cheers

The pictures are great, but your commentary is priceless! I now realize that the life of a roly poly is something to aspire to.
In all seriousness, I can't wait to read and see more of where this walk takes us. I have forwarded my dad the link to your blog as I know he will have a great appreciation for the pictures and the garden.
Cheers!
Hooray for comments. Hope you check in often sir and tell the Mrs. I sent my regards. I sent your dad a link already anyhow, but thanks for thinking of him. He's about to get camera happy, so watch out.
As we've transitioned our yard to organic from the chemical wasteland the previous owners left us with, there has been a veneral explosion of life - roly polys, lizards, and creatures of all kinds. It's almost like a gauge of how we'll you're doing.
Good job!
Be back soon.
I meant general. Typos that look like "venerial" are awesome.
